1857: C. Reichenbach’sche Maschinenfabrik became a public limited company and was renamed Maschinenfabrik Augsburg AG
1841: Opening of Eisengießerei und Maschinenfabrik Klett & Comp., Nuremberg, by Johann Friedrich Klett
1893 - 1897: Invention of the Diesel engine in cooperation with M.A.N. at its Augsburg works

1903: First fast-running four-stroke marine diesel engine
1904: First large diesel power plant installed in Kiev, Ukraine; 1600 HP (1177 KW)
1908: Renaming in Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG (M.A.N.) 
1911: Gustav E. Pielstick began working at M.A.N. to later join Société d' Etudes des Machines Thermiques and found SEMT Pielstick in France
1912: Selandia, first ocean-going vessel powered by Diesel engines (2 x 1 050 HP)
1921: The Gutehoffnungshütte Actienverein für Bergbau und Hüttenbetrieb (GHH) acquired majority in M.A.N
1923: First diesel engine for vehicles based on direct fuel-injection
1932: Most powerful diesel truck in the world: 160 HP (118 kW)
1941: Start of production of Diesel tractors
1945: GHH and M.A.N. suffered heavy war damage, losing all their foreign operations.
Following the occupation of Germany, the Allied Forces started to break up the GHH group, hiving off the steel-producing companies.
1953: The M.A.N. Works Museum was founded for Augsburg-based diesel-engine and printing press activities
1955: Opening of the M.A.N. truck works in Munich.
1980: Takeover of the Diesel engine activities of Burmeister & Wain, B&W Diesel A/S, Denmark
1982: First two-stroke diesel engine with an efficiency of more than 50%
1986: Merger of M.A.N. and GHH to form MAN AG, with headquarters relocated to Munich – reorganisation as a “contract-based group“; Diesel engine activities became own company as MAN B&W Diesel
1988: 50:50 (1998: two thirds/one third) joint venture of MAN B&W Diesel and MTU to run SEMT Pielstick
2005: Common rail technique for large four-stroke Diesel engines
2006: Opening of the "Diesel House" in Copenhagen
2006: Launch of the PGi technology for gas engines
2006: Transfer of MAN B&W Diesel AG into a European Company and renaming in MAN Diesel SE
2006: Takeover of the remaining shares of SEMT Pielstick to form MAN Diesel SAS in France
